Mussorgsky died at the relatively young age of 42 due to alcoholism. This accounts for his small output of finished works. Mussorgsky composed around 65 works during his short life, but many of them were not completed. Composers such as Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel, and others completed and/or orchestrated a number of his unfinished works.
