6. Where did Strauss build a beautiful villa, which he claimed profits from Salome paid for?

Strauss built his beautiful home in Garmsich, located in the Bavarian Alps. According to the story, when the Kaiser of Germany heard a performance of Salome, he is reputed to have said “I am sorry Strauss composed this Salome. It will do him a great deal of harm”. Strauss, on hearing this, commented that the harm enabled him to build the villa at Garmisch. I have visited it many times and it is a beautiful place!
