5. How did Salome influence the career of Gustav Mahler?
Mahler was the Musical Director of the Vienna State Opera, and when Salome was banned from performance in Vienna, Mahler tried with all his power to reverse the decision. Unfortunately, he was not successful, and his resignation/termination from the Vienna Opera in 1907 was partly due to the row over Salome. He subsequently became Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, but died within four years.
