Stravinsky was a pianist and played a number of his concert works for piano. He was not exactly a Rachmaninoff or Prokofiev at the piano, but he was a fine pianist nevertheless. One rather unusual aspect of Stravinsky was that he used the piano to compose. Working always at the piano, he experimented endlessly with different chord combinations and spacings, explored asymmetrical metrical patterns, and used devices of prolongation and elision to break down the tradition of symmetrical phrasing.
