Symphony no. 5

(1895)

Glazunov composed 9 symphonies (the last was left incomplete at his death).  These works form the basis for his international stature (along with his Violin Concerto) and are all gems.  Offered here is the brilliant Scherzo from his Symphony no. 5, a masterpiece of orchestral color and shimmering wind writing. One can clearly hear the influence of his teacher Rimsky-Korsakov, who was the acknowledged master of orchestral color.
