10.  What was the cause of death for Bartók?

Bartók died of leukemia in 1945. His final years were quite desperate: he was unable to make a solid living in the USA, where his music was not widely known at all. According to Igor Stravinsky, “his decline and death in circumstances of actual need….is one of the great tragedies of our society”.
