Maurice Ravel

What was Ravel’s cause of death?

Although many have written that Ravel suffered from a rare brain disease (Pick’s Disease), most Ravel scholars now believe that the serious injuries he received in a severe taxi accident in 1932 led to his worsening health and that his ataxia (inability to coordinate voluntary muscular movements) and aphasia (difficulty in speech and partial loss of memory) were caused by his brain injury. A brain operation in 1937 was unsuccessful , with Ravel lapsing into a coma and dying shortly after the procedure.
