From 1905 onwards, Strauss
devoted his attention to the composing of operas rather than purely orchestral music, beginning with Salome (first premiered in that year). Strauss composed a total of 15 operas in his lifetime, and the most popular (by far!) was Der Rosenkavalier, which we hear selections from here. The famous waltz tunes of this opera remind us of JOHANN Strauss (no relation!). The Suite from Der Rosenkavalier is a CYS standard, which has been played numerous times over the past 20 years.
